Meet the gilmans
Gilman Driveway & Land Services proudly serves homeowners and property owners across Western Maine. Whether you need help fixing a driveway, clearing land, or preparing a site for a project, we’re ready to help.

We know many property owners struggle to find reliable help for smaller projects like driveway repair, grading, trail clearing, or post hole digging. Larger excavation companies often focus on big jobs, leaving a gap for homeowners who need skilled work on a smaller scale.

We started Gilman Driveway & Land Services to provide practical services that help property owners bring their dreams to life. As a small, owner-operated business, every project is handled with attention to detail and a commitment to doing the job right.

We’re currently building our portfolio and welcome the opportunity to earn your business.

Meet the Team
Nick Gilman
Nick is our primary equipment operator; bringing a strong work ethic and fearless approach to getting jobs done quickly and efficiently. Nick is a Maine CDL driver and talented skid steer operator with a background spanning both commercial & residential construction. He spent time as a construction laborer & concrete form carpenter for a commercial GC, then worked for one of Maine's largest lumber companies delivering building materials to job sites. He's run compact equipment for years on the side before starting Gilman Driveway & Land Services with his wife, Hilary.

In his spare time Nick is an avid fisherman, and is also passionate about wildlife & nature conservation, American history, antiques, and pizza.
Hilary Gilman
Hilary handles office operations, including quoting, invoicing, scheduling, & marketing. If you reach out to us, Hilary will likely be the one you'll get in touch with. Her passion for & expertise with landscape gardening also brings her onsite for any tree & shrub planting projects.

Beyond Gilman Driveway & Land Services, she also is an Airbnb host and owns a business providing interior design, decorating, and consulting services to fellow short-term rentals (WildeWoods Design).
In her spare time Hilary likes to read, bake, garden, and tackle DIY projects around the house or yard. She also enjoys spending time out in nature -- hiking or paddleboarding.
Our Maine Story
Nick & Hilary both once worked in the corporate world, and both owned condos in southern New Hampshire when they started dating. It didn't take long for them to align on a shared vision to buy land and move to the woods to pursue a quieter and more self-sufficient life. In early 2023 they sold their condos, then moved into a 5th wheel camper on their new land in Hiram, Maine for the first Summer/Fall with their dogs, Bell (bassett hound) and Penny (lab/hound mix).

Nick and his father (also a heavy equipment operator) did the site work including installing a new 600' gravel driveway, digging (and backfilling) a 200' trench for underground utilities, installing a French drain system, backfilling the foundation, and installing the septic system. They hired contractors to build the shell of their new house (which Hilary GC'd), and then hustled to complete their own interior finish work -- moving into their new home in early Nov '23.
Over the past few years, Nick rented compact skid steer and excavation equipment (in combination with our tractor) to tackle landscaping projects; creating parking pads, lawn areas, gardens, and a wildflower meadow. Hilary further honed her landscape design skills & perennial flower knowledge both at home, and at client Airbnb properties.

In Oct 2024, Hilary & Nick were married in their front yard.
